Iron and Sediment Filtration in Flower Mound

Orange rings in the toilet, grit in the aerators or a faint metallic taste all point to particles in your water. We test to find out what they are, then install a filter sized for your home so the stains and grit stop.

What this filter does and when it makes sense

Sediment filters catch the sand, silt and pipe scale that ride along in the water. Iron filters go a step further and pull dissolved iron out of the water before it can turn into rust-colored stains on your fixtures and laundry. Many homes need one or the other, not both, and a test is how we tell.

We never guess. If the problem is a little grit after nearby line work, a simple sediment cartridge may be enough. If the stains keep coming back, iron is usually the cause, and that calls for a different kind of system.

Timing matters here too. Heavy spring storms and summer demand can stir up more sediment in the lines, so we like to get a filter in place before those months instead of after the stains appear.

What your installation covers

Testing comes first
We check iron, sediment and related readings before suggesting any equipment. You see the numbers, and we explain them in plain language.
A filter that fits the problem
That might be sediment cartridges, a spin-down screen or a dedicated iron filter. We choose media based on the test results, not on what is simplest to sell.
Sized to your home's flow
A filter that is too small loses pressure when two showers run together. We size the housing to your plumbing and how your household uses water.
Neat install at the main line
We put the filter near where water comes into the house, add shutoff and bypass valves for easy service later and cover the floors where we work.
A simple upkeep plan
You leave knowing when to change cartridges or when an iron filter backwashes. If you would rather not track it, our filter replacement and maintenance service can take care of it on a schedule.

Signs iron or sediment filtration could help

  • Orange or brown staining

Rusty rings in toilets, tubs and sinks are a telltale sign of iron. Scrubbing clears them for about a week before they come back.

  • Grit in faucet screens and showerheads

If you are always removing aerators to clean out sand or flakes, sediment is making it through your pipes.

  • Hazy or tinted water

Water that looks cloudy or a little yellow in a clear glass, especially after a storm or utility work, usually has fine particles in it.

  • Dull, dingy laundry

Whites that gradually go tan or pick up faint spots can be a sign of iron reacting with laundry detergent.

  • Appliances wearing out early

Sediment is hard on valves in washers, dishwashers and ice makers. Clogged inlet screens are often an early warning.

What affects the cost

The price depends mostly on what the test finds and how your plumbing is laid out. A simple sediment cartridge and a full iron filter are very different jobs. Your written estimate spells out each part so nothing comes as a surprise.

Iron level and type

Low iron can sometimes be handled with a cartridge. Higher levels need a backwashing iron filter with its own media and drain connection.

Size of your home

More bathrooms and higher flow mean a larger housing or tank to keep pressure steady.

Access to the main line

An easy garage or exterior hookup costs less than one that needs extra pipe runs or rerouting.

Pairing with other filters

Many homes add a sediment stage in front of whole-house carbon filtration or a softener to protect them. Combining the work on one visit can save labor.

How the work goes

  1. 1

    Talk it over by phone

You tell us what you're seeing and when it started. We set a time that works for you.

  2. 2

    Test and inspect

We sample your water, look at your main line and check where a filter can sit with room to service it.

  3. 3

    Written estimate

You get a line-item estimate that lists the filter, valves and labor. If a basic sediment cartridge solves it, we tell you so.

  4. 4

    Install day

Most installs take part of a day. Water is off only while we cut in, and we flush the system and check for leaks before we pack up.

  5. 5

    Follow-up check

After the system has run a while, we can retest to confirm the iron and sediment readings dropped the way they should.

Common questions about iron and sediment filters

Is a test really needed before you install a filter?

Yes. Grit and iron can look the same at first, but they call for different equipment. Testing keeps you from paying for a system that does not match the problem. Our water testing page has more detail.

Does a filter reduce water pressure?

A filter sized correctly should not cause a drop you notice. Lost pressure usually comes from an undersized housing or a cartridge left in too long. We size for your home's demand and show you when cartridges are due.

Isn't a water softener the same thing?

No. A softener takes out hardness minerals and may catch a bit of iron, but it is not designed for sediment or higher iron levels. We suggest water softeners only after a hardness test shows you need one.

How long will a sediment cartridge last?

It depends on how much grit your water carries and how many gallons your household pushes through the filter. Some cartridges stay clean for months, and others clog fast after a storm or nearby line work. We examine the first cartridge we remove and set your change schedule from what we find.

Will the stains already on my fixtures come off?

Most rust stains clean up with an iron-safe cleaner once new iron stops coming in. Stains set into old porcelain may lighten without fully disappearing. The filter stops new ones from forming.
